At risk residents of the greater Armstrong County Pennsylvania area can turn to the Salvation Army. The non-profit will offer intake to some people, while others will be given a referral. In either case the organization will try to offer some sort a solution to a crisis situation. For a large number of struggling, low-income families from Kittanning and the county, there are food pantries and soup kitchens.

The centers serve residents of all towns and cities in the area. These resources offer families at risk for hunger with canned goods, hot meals and emergency food boxes every month. Other special services

They are assisted from summer snack and meal programs, and these are for students from struggling families in the Kittanning area during school breaks.

The food box program is available on a monthly basis to needy individuals and families. The content of the boxes will vary. But they may contain a vast array of items such as pasta, peanut butter, cereal, tuna, canned fish, soups, fruit, vegetables, milk, beans, dairy items, and rice. What the center may have are gently used shoes, clothing, winter coats for children, school supplies, backpacks and other necessary items. Most of the goods are sold at a low cost. However, in exceptional circumstances there are vouchers for free items in the clothing closet to clients that meet eligibility requirements.

available for their use at the Salvation Army. This is available for anyone without a place to stay, regardless of creed, race, age or gender. This Armstrong County shelter offers a secure environment and free meals for those that are escaping domestic violence, were evicted, or are now homeless.

The Salvation Army also has funding for some bills or rent payments . There will be a small amount of financial help for those facing an emergency, such as an eviction of shut off of their power.

The main focus of this funding is to prevent a disconnection in electric services or prevent an eviction in order for clients to stay in their homes. If an applicant is qualified through the limited funding that is available in Armstrong County, a payment is made directly to the client's utility company or landlord.

The Salvation Army of Armstrong County offers low-income, struggling households: Family Advocacy and Support when needed. The goal is to work with people on a resolution to their problems over a long term period. Much of the work involved includes intensive counseling, setting attainable goals, connecting families to the necessary local resources, and providing follow-up support.

For struggling individuals, seniors and families, the holidays can bring on additional stressors. There are resources in the Arstrong County community for holiday and Christmas assistance. The center may provide free meals and gifts to low-income children throughout the service area.

Faith-Based Emergency Assistance

Counseling for basic life skills and access to recovery based meetings are available to eligible clients from the Armstrong County Salvation Army. During this time of support, those who enroll still need to pay a portion of their income towards rent, utility bills and their other housing costs. In turn, the Salvation Army will provide Employment Referrals, Residential Meals, shelter in Kittanning, Bag Lunches, Clothing Vouchers, Affordable Housing Referrals, Bus Passes, Case Management and other aid to help them transition to a self-sufficient life.
