Food Assistance and Food Banks
Hawaii County food banks and pantries. Most of the food pantries for the city of Hilo and greater Hawaii County area are open limited hours. There are dozens of distribution centers located at non-profit organizations. Senior citizens, families facing a crisis, and struggling residents can contact one of these free food pantries for support.
Whether it is a church based group, or a local government agency, the goal is to provide healthy food. What may be provided ranges from non-perishable groceries to fruits, baby formula, vegetables, and surplus USDA commodities. Many centers offer other support as well. Some may even offer financial aid for paying certain expenses.
