Under TEFAP, the Highland Rim Economic Corporation allocates food in January, April, July and October of each year at its service centers. What may be provided includes fruits and juices; dried beans; canned meats or vegetables, such as peas, tomatoes, baby formula, spaghetti and sauce; and dried fruits, such as raisins, prunes and figs.
There are also free oats; peanut butter; vegetable soup; instant and 2% milk; and applesauce. Free Ensure or Boost protein drinks are also given out. So different types of items are offered by TEFAP. Also, it is important to note that it is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Homebound senior citizens or disabled residents of counties such as Houston can have free meals delivered to their home .
Staff members and volunteers from Highland Rim Economic Corporation are key to this service. They will deliver hot, nutritious meals. In addition, senior citizens receive a week long supply of frozen meals if that is easier for them. Free stuff-Basic needs can be satisfied as well as food. This is done when the agency partners with clothing closets and other service centers in the Houston and Dickson County region.
