Community Action Agency Services

The non-profit Hill Country Community Action Association, or HCCAA, offers a host of services to qualified individuals and families. The center provides coverage to several different counties. Assistance administered can address education, housing, energy bill assistance, nutrition and much more.

The information provided by the organization will assist low income families in obtaining any benefits and assistance that is available. The Head Start Program will offer families and their children the opportunity for early childhood education. It is available for children from low income families that are age 3 to 5.

All families and households that apply need to meet the federal government low income requirements. Disability, dental care, nutritional, and medical services are a few of the resources available to applicants. Staff and teachers from the program also collaborate closely with families to ensure that everything learned at the facility and schools is implemented in their home.

Community Action Agency Services

is available in the counties of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Milam, Mills, and San Saba Texas. The regional Hill Country Community Action Association and its partners operate several senior centers. They may be able to provide comprehensive services to individuals ages 60 and above as well as their spouses.

Some of the services for seniors in the region include, but are not limited to, outreach, nutrition, and general counseling. Outreach participants will need to undergo a pre-assessment screening to identify eligibility for any in-home services. In addition, nutritional hot meals are offered at several Seniors Centers and Nutrition Sites located in the nine core counties.

The Area Agencies on Aging, Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) caseworkers determine the eligibility for in- home delivery of hot nutritional meals to disabled persons.

The organizations has partnered with the Central Texas Workforce Board to assist low income families with paying for child care while the parents are working or in job training. The agency also makes social services and much more available to the participants.

Programs for Seniors and Elderly

can be met. Persons in need of food assistance, medical benefits, financial assistance, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), long term care, or other government assistance may apply for benefits at the HCCAA Multi-Service Senior Center, Head Start location and other social services agencies in community.

Community Action Agency Services

is for low income households experiencing an energy crisis. This can assist with paying their utility, gas, and electric bills. Low income families may be able to get help from Hill Country Community Action Association when they have no other options available to them.

Assistance is also offered during extreme weather conditions. This financial aid is usually available when the households expenses exceed the income generated by the family. Crisis assistance may also be offered for utilities when there is a threat to the well-being of a member of the household or if they have an elderly, disabled or children under the age of 5.

The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is the state’s version of LIHEAP. It can also help with paying utilities. Other resources in the region include the ATMOS Share The Warmth as well as TXU-Energy Aid for electric bills.

Free Vehicle Programs

is used to assess homes, which can then lead to them receiving updates. This will then lower their energy consumption. It provides insulation, door and window caulking, heating and cooling systems repairs and more. Clients of HCCAA can also get instructions on health and safety. All of this, and more, is provided to the eligible applicants.

They may even get free carbon monoxide detection and smoke detector installation. Affordable housing: Resources are offered in partnership with other agencies. The Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) as well as HCCAA have provided affordable housing for the poor and low- to-moderate income households.

The organization has also partnered with the City of Killeen Texas to develop affordable housing with the use of Low Income Housing Tax Credits. Killeen Stone Ranch Apartment Homes are for residents age fifty-five and above. They may be provided the opportunity to enjoy affordable housing in the City of Killeen.

The community also offers participants over 100 single story, spacious units. A number of amenities are even available to those seniors that qualify. (254) 200-4553. The Veranda at Twin Creek is another option. This will provide almost 90 residential facilities. These are also offered for individuals age 60 and over.
