The South Dakota Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program can provide low income families with rental assistance in the form of monthly subsidies or vouchers. A number of non-profit agencies and public housing authorities administer this program on behalf of the federal government and U.S.

Section 8 Housing Assistance

Most of the support from this program goes to the elderly and low income families with children. Every month clients will receive a voucher that is used to pay a portion of their rent, and the funds are paid directly to your landlord or the owner of the housing unit. What happens is the South Dakota program will limit a clients rent to 30% of their total household income.

The Section 8 voucher can also be used for a variety of homes, including apartments or private residences, provided they meet program requirements.
