Whether an emergency or not, Sumter County residents can get assistance from a local food pantry or feeding site such as soup kitchen. There are dozens of locations in the region, and they pass out free groceries, deliver meals to the homebound, server holida food boxes (or meals), and also offer personal hygiene supplies.
The point being many of the food banks are extensive in the amount and type of services they offer, and some have staff that can even help families apply for state of South Carolina SNAP food stamps.

There are also free turkey dinners, hot meals during Christmas, toys for kids, and financial assistance too.
